Defiant Requiem Movie

Verdi's Messa da Requiem was performed in Terezín on May 21, 2006 as part of a concert drama called Defiant Requiem. Verdi at Terezín as part of the Prague Spring festival, staged by the American conductor Murry Sidlin. The singing soloists were Sharon Christman, Eleni Matos, Steven Tharp and Gary Relyea, the reciters were Gary Sloan and John Lescault, the choir and orchestra of the Catholic University of America, the Washington Chorus with choirmaster Robert Shafer, and the Virtuosi Pragenses orchestra performed. Several descendants of the survivors also sang in the choir. In memory of the conductor Rafael Schächter and the Terezin prisoners, a ninety-minute documentary film was then created with the support of the Defiant Requiem Foundation and The Jewish Center in Princeton (New Jersey), which was nominated for two Emmy Awards in the news and documentary categories in 2014.
