Program:
Johannes Brahms: Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, Op. 60
Antonín Dvořák: Piano Quartet No. 2 in E flat major, Op. 87
The Wiener Klavierquartett started on the European scene as the Stratos Quartett twelve years ago. Since then, it has won numerous prestigious awards and invitations to the Musikverein in Vienna, London's Wigmore Hall, and beyond the European continent. The cello in the quartet is played by Czech musician Jan Ryska, a graduate of HAMU and the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, a member of one of the orchestras of the Vienna State Opera. Our festival concert is a replica of the programme that Gideon Klein performed with his fellow prisoners in the Terezín concentration camp. The two works that will be performed at the concert can without exaggeration be ranked among the most impressive ever written for piano quartet.
