On November 26, in St. Vavřinci in Prague held a recital by double bassist Indy Stivín with the piano collaboration of Alice Springs. I must honestly say that I have never heard such a double bass player. Pure tone without the usual double bass noises, incredibly perfect intonation, solid rhythm and great musicality. With the arrival of Mr. Stivín, she definitively accepted her thesis that the double bass is not a solo instrument. The repertoire is based on transcriptions - Indi Stivín took care of many things: he transformed Dvořák's songs or the violin sonata for his instrument, and it sounds as if the compositions for the double bass were created. The soloist was also the author of two of his own compositions, while the more advanced one, written in honor of Pavel Haas, was based on the H-A-A-S tones, and this motif served the author for skillful thematic work.

At the first festival concert, Virtuosi Brunenses will perform the String Trio for Violin, Viola and Cello by Gideon Klein, as well as Passacaglia and Fugue for String Trio by Hans Krása. The former will serve as a musical model for a ballet performance.

The trio was formed in 2009 on the initiative of the violinist of the Wihan Quartet, Jan Schulmeister. Its members are renowned players. The first part of the concert is, with regard to the focus of the festival, composed of works from the first half of the 20th century. In addition to compositions by Zikmund Schul and Erwin Schulhoff, we can hear an adaptation of the first String Quartet (Tolstoy's initiative "Kreutzer's Sonata") in the form for a piano trio (adapted by Miloš Štědroň). In the second half, on the other hand, the ensemble will present a traditional repertoire composition, Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor "Dumky" Op. 90 Antonín Dvořák.

The concert of the Bennewitz Quartet is a representative cross-section of chamber music of the Central European cultural context of the first half of the 20th century. The ensemble will perform compositions by Erwin Schulhoff, Gideon Klein, Viktor Ullmann and Antonín Dvořák. The latter, leaning towards Beethoven, Schubert or Brahms, became a significant source of inspiration for the entire rising generation. Today, the world-famous Schulhoff is famous for his compositional perfection, musical joke combined with dance rhythm, tasteful irony and modern elegance. His Five Pieces for String Quartet is one of the characteristic reminders of the post-war penetration of jazz and dance music into "classical art". The fantasy and fugue for young Gideon Klein's string quartet will sound as a reminder of the author's centenary. Viktor Ullmann's String Quartet No. 3 (the author's only surviving string quartet) will captivate the audience with its depth and expressiveness. Schönberg's influence is evident in this work.

The festival concert presents at least two interesting dramaturgical units. Immediately after each other, a selection from the famous Martinů cycle of the Czech Madrigal (1939) and a pair of Klein's choirs (1942/43) will be heard. The different works, which belong to one time period, are supplemented by the Theme with Variations (1936) for the string quartet by the composer Hans Krása. The second attractive act will be a selection from the songs of Gustav Mahler in a lesser-known arrangement for a mixed choir (the author of the arrangements is Clytus Gottwald). The concert will be performed with the composition Five Jewish Love Songs by the contemporary American composer and conductor Eric Whitacre (version with accompaniment for string quartet).
